BREAK THE CHAINS CAMPAIGN UPDATE: COMRADE MVUSELELO MKHABELA GRANTED BAIL

Wednesday, 1 November 2023

Today, the high court in Mbabane granted Comrade Mvuselelo Mkhabela a E15,000.00 bail and is set to be released as soon as payment is made.

Mswati’s police arrested and tortured Comrade Mvuselelo Mkhabela (22) in April 2023, and had been in custody since then and endured all sorts of hardship behind bars. The police had previously shot, arrested and tortured him and also intimidated his family.

The Mswati regime does not have a case against Comrade Mvuselo. The autocracy arrested him as a form of victimisation for his bravery in organising the people for democracy in Swaziland as well as to deter other young people from standing up for their rights as citizens.

Contrary to the regime’s intentions, more young people have joined the struggle for freedom having been inspired by activists such as Comrade Mvuselelo.

Comrade Mvuselelo is a Central Committee member of the Communist Party of Swaziland and serves as head of the Party’s Peasants Commission.

Swaziland remains an absolute monarchy since 12 April 1973 when the monarch banned all political parties and assumed all executive, legislative and judicial powers and ruled by decree.

In line with its BREAK THE CHAINS CAMPAIGN, the Communist Party of Swaziland calls for the unconditional release of all political prisoners, unconditional unbanning of all political parties, safe and unconditional return of all political prisoners.
