CPS May Day 2023 statement: Militants to the front

Communist Party of Swaziland

Monday 1 May 2023:- The Communist Party of Swaziland (CPS) greets the working class in Swaziland and across the whole world as they rally and celebrate Workers Day.

As the CPS, we note and honour the sterling struggles waged by the workers in Swaziland and across the entire world the difficult times of the deepening crisis of capitalism. The system of capitalism remains the cause of the sufferings of the workers and poor. In Swaziland, this system is organised under a dictatorship of a monarchic regime which criminalises human rights and workers’ struggles. The regime uses brutal force to subvert these struggles.

The CPS will continue to organise along the trade union movement organised under the Trade Union Congress of Swaziland (TUCOSWA) to strengthen and make these struggles effective and meet its goal of ending oppression and exploitation in the country for freedom, democracy and social justice. The challenge of organisation of workers in Swaziland is reinforced by the presence of the regime’s secret police planted to destroy unions.

The theme of the year, “Workers in pursuit of fundamental rights, freedom and democracy”, correctly captures the objectives of not only workers, but the majority oppressed people of the country under tinkhundla regime and its dictatorship.

The CPS, as an important component of the struggle for freedom and democracy in Swaziland, believes strongly that the demands in the theme can be achieved through the total ending of the entire tinkhundla system for a true democracy where workers and the entire working-class people of the country will form the majority in the running of the state to organise better the economy and address the social miseries reproduced by the present system.

CPS mobilised the entire oppressed people of the country to Boycott, Disrupt and Stop the tinkhundla sham elections and deny the corrupt government and its puppet parliament any hand from its victims, the working class and poor of our country.

As the CPS, we call upon the workers of Swaziland to join this campaign fully and make this effort effective. The dictatorship must not survive from the ignorance of the people.

The CPS is calling for militant struggles organised in communities, workplaces, campuses, schools throughout the country to rise against the dictatorship to achieve freedom and establish democracy in our country. For this to be realised, the CPS sees the need to build a strong movement of the oppressed people with a resistance capacity to repel the system, its repressive instrument and oppressive institutions.

The CPS further calls upon the workers of the world to join forces in solidarity against oppression and exploitation of workers and working-class people everywhere in the world to strengthen the anti-imperialist front and against capitalism and its barbarism manifestations including wars of dominance.

The CPS calls upon the workers and the entire oppressed people to organise and rise in demand for the Unbanning of Political Parties, the Unconditional Release of all political prisoners and detainees, the Unconditional and Safe Return of all Political Exiles as demands that unite the oppressed people to a front for democracy.

The CPS salutes those who die carrying the banner of struggle, sacrifices and solidarity and internationalism.
